Message from founder
My name is Lila and I am the founder of CHEF. I currently run the CHEF orphanage. I grew up in a small remote village in Nepal like many of the children living at the orphanage now. I studied in school for 8 years in my village, then left home to study further. I currently take care of 8 children from age 5 to 12. I have a firsthand understanding of the difficult, and often hopeless situation that Nepali children face growing up in poverty.
At age 19 I trained for one year to become a teacher. When I turned 20 I studied for two years at Myagdi College in Beni, Myagdi District of Nepal. Determined to finance further studies, I moved once more - this time to Pokhara, Nepal, where I became a trekking porter, and later, a trekking guide. I guided various people around different parts of Nepal. At age 23, I moved to Kathmandu to further my studies and continued to work as a trekking guide. I studied a bachelor in political science and tourism at Tribhuvan university of Kathmandu.
In March 2011 I registered my own orphanage as an NGO with the government of Nepal and welcomed my first three children to their new home at CHEF. I provide love, support, and a home for the children at CHEF.
